Tucker Carlson to interview Caitlyn Jenner in post-Bill O’Reilly timeslot

Caitlyn Jenner

This week, Fox News officially kicked Bill O’Reilly to the curb, albeit with a rather big parachute payment, following allegations of sexual harassment in the work place.

Where does this leave the network? They’ve already announced that Tucker Carlson is going to be taking his place in the former timeslot, and we’re also now getting a good sense as to who his first guest is going to be. According to a new report from Variety, Caitlyn Jenner will be Carlson’s first guest as the timeslot and the network as a whole looks to start to usher in a new era.

We do think that Jenner is a very interesting choice for the show, given that you are bringing someone in who, while conservative in terms of their values, still represents diversity in a way that people don’t often associate with the network. Jenner has had a hot-and-cold relationship with President Trump in particular. While he voted for him during the Presidential Election, he’s grown critical of him for not living up to what Jenner believed to be campaign promises when it comes to taking care of the LGBTQ community.

One thing that is interesting is that this booking is already the subject of a good bit of backlash among many viewers online. Some reasons are legitimate. Meanwhile, there are plenty of others that seem to be coming more out of some sort of prejudice against either Jenner’s gender identity or her political beliefs. We’re sure that this will get a lot of headlines, but it’s hard to know about almost anything else.

In the end, we’ll see what Fox News does in the weeks to come to try to recruit longtime viewers, and try to also repair whatever reputation that they’ve lost. This is a network in a clear transition when it comes to their changing hosts, and then there is of course the departure of Roger Ailes behind the scenes.
