Mayans MC pilot: Kurt Sutter takes you behind the scenes

With the Mayans MC pilot currently in production, we’ve got a new peek behind the scenes. Not only that, but it’s a rather informative one.

Specifically, the video below was shared by none other than executive producer Kurt Sutter, who is on location in California working to make this new project a success. Sutter is quick to admit that the idea of making this show and doing so successfully is rather daunting, since it is such a different culture and therein a different world than what he crafted on the original Sons of Anarchy for so many years. While both revolve around motorcycle clubs, he related to the SAMCRO story more given that it came more from his own point of view. Here, he has a show about Latino culture, and there are so many different traditions that are different and need to be highlighted in one form or another. He specifies a few of them, including the style of the bikes themselves.

In the event that Mayans MC is ordered to series (which feels pretty darn likely at this point), the hope then becomes bringing in some other voices who understand the culture through more of their own experiences. This in turn opens up an opportunity for Sutter and the rest of the team to craft something that is even more authentic, though we have all the confidence in the world that Kurt’s come up with something pretty badass all his own.

Sutter also says in this video that it’s far from the only one he’s planning for Mayans, something that we certainly appreciate. Just think for a minute about the number of showrunners willing to put this sort of behind the scenes content out there just so that viewers can appreciate all of the work that goes into making it a success. It’s cool, and the personal insight is one of the reasons we believe that the audience for the original show grew year to year. That’s something that, when you think about it, is very rare in an era with so many other options.

What do you want to see on the Mayans MC pilot, and are you just as excited as you were for Sons of Anarchy? Be sure to share in the comments.
