Timeless season 2 renewal journey: The big day for NBC

Timeless season 2 renewal journey

As we follow along the Timeless season 2 renewal journey, today is arguably the most important one that we’ve come across since the finale aired on NBC. After all, today is the day that NBC is presented with the pitch for what a season 2 for the Abigail Spencer – Matt Lanter series could look like.

If you look below, you can see some posts from executive producer Shawn Ryan on Twitter that give you a sense of his own journey today heading in to deliver said pitch. If only we knew what was in that book … or actually, we probably don’t. If the show is picked up for a season 2, part of the fun will come via the element of surprise.

While it would be great if NBC heard the pitch and said yes immediately, that probably isn’t going to happen. The executives will likely keep this in mind as they suss out the schedule for the fall and some of the new series that they want to pick up. The reality here is that there are so many different components that go into whether or not a show is picked up, and it’s pretty tough to lay them all out on the table right now. You’ve got new shows, returning shows, ratings, digital performance, streaming services, syndication hopes, ad revenue, studio concerns, and budgets to think about … and that is probably the tip of the iceberg.

Odds are, we’ll learn the fate of Timeless within the first two weeks of May. At that point, we’ll either help to march in the victory parade or lament what could have been. If the show doesn’t come back, at least you can sit back and feel like the folks behind the scenes did everything that they possibly could in order to get the show on the air. Sometimes, you really can’t ask for anything more. Networks are fickle, and often they are unpredictable. Enjoy the journey you’ve been on so far and cross your fingers for more.
