Yesterday, there was a good bit of Outlander season 3 news in the form of some new photos coming out via Starz– which also means we get some new photos to add to our own rotation. Hello, new Jamie Fraser on horseback!
Anyway, for this article we wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to pass along the latest filming update for season 3 in terms of where production is right now all the way down in South Africa. With the Easter holiday coming up, everyone may have a chance to get a little rest and relaxation (however brief). They certainly deserve it! Two episodes are apparently now finished in the country, and that means, per the post from Sam Heughan below on Twitter, that there are still three more to go.
If we’re to do a little bit of basic math here, that also means that the first eight episodes of the season will be all Scotland-based, and after that, the voyage for Jamie and Claire Fraser to the Caribbean will begin. Visually, we know this will be stunning based on the Black Sails crew working on the show and some of the incredible stuff we’ve seen them put on the air over the years. We also know that the performances here are top-notch because we’ve already seen them through two seasons.
The third season, unfortunately, will take plenty of time to get here even after the show wraps up production in June. After all, it’s important to remember here for a moment that there is post-production, editing, ADR work, and anything and everything in between that will come up between now and the show airing in September. The thing that you should be exciting about now is that production is in the home stretch. Not only that, but there is a new teaser coming on the air this Sunday, prior to the start of The White Princess. You better believe that we’re going to have full impressions of whatever they are and we will watch it a dozen or so times over.
For the time being, though, a happy holiday break to all who celebrate! Enjoy some time relaxing, and know that by the time you’re celebrating next year, odds are the cast will be hard at work on season 4.
