Arrow season 5 finale spoilers: Oliver’s surprise alliance

Arrow season 5 finale

Sure, the Arrow season 5 finale is still many weeks into the future, but judging from some of the buzz that’s out there already, there seems to be one reason in particular to be excited about it already: The idea of Oliver Queen having to make some strange bedfellows in order to ensure that Prometheus is gone once and for all.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Wendy Mericle makes it clear that the alliances that are coming up will be very “surprising.” Then, she added the following:

“You’re not going to believe who Oliver is working with to defeat Prometheus. It’s going to be really emotional. It’s going to be all about Oliver’s family, but not the family we’re thinking of right now. It’s going to end in a giant explosion, but not where we think it’s going to end, and the emotional punch is going to be bigger than the actual physical part of the bombs going off.”

Given that one of the big goals of Adrian Chase since his arrival on the show has been to physically break Oliver in some way, this episode is almost surely going to continue that in some way. As we get near the end of his plan, he will probably take things to the next level when it comes to his viciousness and his audacity. We expect things to get crazy — as a matter of fact, we want things to get crazy. That’s going to be a big part of what makes the finale so interesting.

Of course, there remains a part of us that wants the unexpected alliance to be with someone like Slade, but we concede that this is probably unlikely. For now, you have to look more at people like Vigilante and maybe Black Siren — given that Katie Cassidy is going to be a regular for the upcoming sixth season, it makes some sense to bring her back onto the show in the last episode in hopes of trying to introduce how she will be sticking around. (We also know that Vigilante will be staying put until season 6, given that we’re not even set to learn this season who is hiding underneath that mask.

Who do you want to be the surprise ally of Oliver’s during the Arrow season 5 finale? Be sure to let us know in the comments!

Meanwhile, head over here in the event that you missed some of the first details regarding the upcoming April 26 installment of the show, the first following its return. (Photo: The CW.)
