Supergirl season 2 episode 18 spoilers: Lena Luthor’s ‘Ace Reporter’ story

Supergirl season 2 episode 18 may not be airing until we roll around to Monday, April 24, but there is no reason to wait for further news about it!

Below, we’ve got for you the first official synopsis as released by CBS, and it offers up a chance to see more of what’s coming both in terms of a key Lena Luthor story, and also the arrival of Jack Spheer, a character who could easily become the comic-book villain Biomax:

“Lena’s (guest star Katie McGarth) ex-boyfriend, Jack Spheer (guest star Rahul Kohli), comes to National City to unveil his big breakthrough in nano-technology, which has the potential to eradicate all diseases. Lena asks Kara to attend Jack’s conference with her for support. When Kara sees Snapper (guest Star Ian Gomez) in attendance she’s inspired to tap back into her reporter skills and questions Jack on his discovery, which ultimately leads to a bigger investigation that puts everyone in danger.”

While it’s certainly possible that we are going to end up seeing the arrival of Biomax in this episode, and the presence of Supergirl no less, we do think that the main event here is going to be Kara Danvers. With the title being “Ace Reporter” and the return of Snapper Carr being a key factor in the story, we do think that one of the big priorities here over the course of this episode is showing the strength of reporting. We’re absolutely not bad about this story and the opportunities that it could afford to highlight exemplary journalism. Given that we live in a world now that does tend to minimize the importance of quality journalism, maybe this story paints things in a little more of a favorable light.

For those who missed it, this episode is really going to just set the foundation for seeing so much more Lena in the future. We’re going to have a chance to see Katie McGrath return as a series regular over the course of season 3, meaning that you’ll probably see more of her in terms of total episodes and her impact on the overall story. As for whether or not she becomes more of a villain, that’s something that we’ll have to wait and see.
