The Flash season 3: Who is DeVoe a.k.a. The Thinker (Clifford DeVoe)?

Who is DeVoe

Tonight on The Flash, there was a heck of an Easter egg that may tease up a future storyline for the show … but it was also so brief that you may have missed it.

During his monologue before leaving with Gypsy for Earth-19, Abra Kadabra made it clear that one of the opponents that Barry Allen could be facing off against someday is DeVoe. Well, here’s a good question for you: Who is DeVoe? We like to think that we’ve got that answer for you within … or at least the comic-book incarnation of the character. (There is always a good chance that the show finds a way to mix things up a little bit — just look at what they’ve done with the majority of their villains.)

In the comics, Clifford DeVoe ends up becoming a villain known as the Thinker, someone with superior intellect that eventually morphs into telekinesis, mind control, and a whole lot more. He’s a formidable opponent, and someone who seems similar to Grodd only with more experience when it comes to humanity.

One interesting thing about him in the comics is that DeVoe was a District Attorney, which is a very popular profession within the DC Comics – CW universe. Laurel Lance was an Assistant District Attorney prior to her death on Arrow, and this season on that show Adrian Chase is the DA … and also Prometheus.

Ultimately, we’ll hopefully get a chance to learn a little bit more about who DeVoe is either later this season, or potentially over the summer leading up to season 4. It’s obvious that this name was thrown out there for a reason, and it’s something that she show plans to explore at some point. For now, it’s largely a question of when more so than if. We just hope that everyone out there who is a diehard comics fan caught the mention since it was so fleeting.

One other thing to remember here is that it’s already been confirmed that the Big Bad for the next season is not going to be a Speedster; with that, it’s different from everything we’ve seen so far.

Do you think that DeVoe could be the Big Bad on The Flash season 4? Share some of your thoughts in the comments!
