Grey’s Anatomy season 13: Ellen Pompeo talks Meredith – Riggs’ future
When we last saw these two characters on the ABC show, what we ended up seeing her specifically was a situation where Meredith came closer to wanting to give this relationship a go, but she’s not there just yet! There are some further issues that she’s going to be facing coming up, and that is something that Ellen Pompeo discussed in a new interview with TVLine via PaleyFest:
“We constantly try to find the right balance and portray a widow or widower moving on … That’s a storyline that is important to me to portray in the right way. It doesn’t always go my way, but I’m constantly struggling and fighting for the character and working on the storyline to make sure that we do it justice for all the people out there that have lost their spouses.”
Pompeo added that it’s not a sure thing that the two parties will be getting into a romantic relationship, but there is an element of shared grief that the two do share. Riggs has been dealing with everything regarding Owen’s sister for years, so he may be able to understand what she is going through better than others. It’s also been enough time for the two of them that they may be able to better understand who they are as people now, and precisely where they could be going as people from here.
What’s holding them back? There certainly have to be questions right now regarding whether or not Meredith is ready, and then she has two other family-related factors to think about here. For one, there is the issue in regards to Maggie having some feelings for Riggs — Riggs may not share the same feelings, but that is something that Meredith has to focus on because she doesn’t want to do anything in order to intentionally hurt her sister.
Also, there is the fact that Meredith has children and a family to think about. This is something that she will always think about, since they are among of the most important things in her life.
