The Vampire Diaries spin-off: Could you include Klaus, Bonnie in this Caroline story?

Vampire Diaries spin-off

We’re a few days off now from The Vampire Diaries series finale, but there is still talk floating around on the internet about whether or not a third series set in this universe could come about. The idea of a Vampire Diaries spin-off in particular featuring Caroline Forbes (Candice King) is one that many people in particular are interested in.

So is there now a chance to make said Vampire Diaries spin-off happen? Maybe, but it could not be for a little while. In speaking about the possibility of such a thing, through talk of Caroline, Klaus, and The Originals season 4, here is what executive producer Julie Plec had to say to The Hollywood Reporter:

“Obviously our timelines did not match up, so Caroline and Klaus are not coming face-to-face in this season. That being said, we do have crossover elements in the upcoming season of The Originals that’s about to start airing, and it all brings it back to what I see as a future for either The Originals or another piece of the franchise to launch off of the end of The Originals. So I look forward to being able to play around in that sandbox and see if I can make something of it.”

The idea for a Caroline Vampire Diaries spin-off goes somewhat like this: She figures out a way to make Stefan’s final wish a reality using some of Klaus’ money, and maybe he eventually finds a way to join her, feeling as though he is a different person coming out of The Originals. The two are certainly worthy of fronting their own season, regardless of whether or not you pair them up romantically (though this is certainly something that we’re all for on the basis of chemistry). You could also easily throw in some guest-starring appearances from some other people here and there; the series finale for The Vampire Diaries proper didn’t nullify the possibility of any of these characters like a Bonnie (who could be especially useful) or a Matt turning up before they end up finding peace in the closing moments.

Unfortunately, we don’t see this Vampire Diaries spin-off idea happening until the 2018-19 season at the earliest. There’s no real time to get it together this season, and you don’t know how The Originals is going to fare. (For the record, though, Joseph Morgan is not joining the new X-Men spin-off, just in case you have not heard.)

What we want to know for now from you is this: Do you want to watch a Vampire Diaries spin-off featuring Klaus and Caroline — with maybe another character or two thrown in? Share in the comments below! (Photo: The CW.)
