The Bachelor finale: Vanessa Grimaldi (and Nick Viall’s father) tear up

Given that Monday night marks The Bachelor finale, this does mark a time in which we’re going to start to see people getting a little bit emotional. Specifically, we mean that in terms of both Vanessa Grimaldi and Nick Viall’s father both breaking down during their conversation.

While in some ways you can label the sneak peek below dramatic, we feel like it’s almost a good thing that this happens. It forges such a deep connection with these two almost right away, and it shows him that she’s there for the right reasons and cares about her son deeply. It’s a moment that the two can look back on.

Here are a few other fun things to remember here. For one, beards! Apparently, Nick inherited the beard from his father. Also, you have to wonder whether or not his family is starting to feel a little cynical about all of this given that this is the third time in one way or another that they’ve gone through this crazy process.

Hey, kudos to Nick’s family in general for being willing to go to Northern Finland in November. We can’t imagine that this was the most pleasant vacation that they’ve ever had in terms of the timing. (Personally, we feel like someone was probably wondering why he didn’t get a final rose ceremony in the tropics.)

Meanwhile, with Raven Gates…

Clearly, the show is bringing the two parties full-circle given that this date echoes almost exactly what they went through on their very first date roller-skating. The only difference is the venue: They’re now enjoying some time together out on an ice rink, and don’t seem anywhere near that freaked out over the possibility of freezing their butts off. We do think that Nick’s got it much easier than Raven, especially given that her ears aren’t even all that covered up!

Nick and Raven’s relationship is pretty strong, but the thing we worry about for them is the deeper connection. Nick seems to be a guy who loves to challenge himself, and at the moment, this is very much the less challenging of his final two. We’ll see if that means anything.
