Will Lana Parrilla return to Once Upon a Time? According to TVLine, she’s one of four series regulars currently in talks to return. To go along with her, you’ve got Jennifer Morrison (Emma Swan), Colin O’Donoughue (Captain Hook), and Robert Carlyle (Rumpelstiltskin). Three of these three were regulars back at the start of the show, while Colin joined in the second season and was promoted soon after that. If these four extend their deals, this more or less ensures that there will be some continuity in the event that a season 7 renewal comes around. We do know that there could be some new cast members coming up.
As for the rest of the cast (Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Dallas, Emilie de Ravin and Jared Gilmore), the jury is still out on their status. They’re not necessarily leaving the show, but there is no news on their future at the moment. It would be nice to see them all return — if they’re not, the site reports that it could be a creative decision as opposed to one related to the budget of the show. That is what ended up befalling Castle with some of the departures that happened over the course of its run — and what could’ve happened if that show was renewed for a season 9. That negotiation reportedly came very much down to the wire.
With this show, we feel much stronger about a renewal than we did with Castle. While the ratings are hardly near what they once were when it was a ratings sensation back during the first season, it still has international popularity. Plus, there may be a certain degree of interest in trying to see the story through and give fans the happy ending they want and deserve. This is a little bit different than your standard show. We know that television is a business, but there’s a need to pay off this story. You need to reinforce your message one way or another to young viewers watching at home.
