Big Brother Canada 5: Emily Hawkin pre-game interview (exclusive)

Emily Hawkin pre-game interview -

If there is an award for a Big Brother houseguest who has the hardest time refraining from singing, it could be Emily Hawkin on Big Brother Canada 5. She’s a musician and a server from Toronto (originally from Lindsay, which is about an hour and a half northeast of the city), and this season she’s bringing in a quirky personality, a good sense of humor, and a willingness to be flexible and play to the crowd in the house. While we’re not sure that she is a superfan, she’s reasonably familiar with the show and understands how it works.

In this Emily Hawkin pre-game interview, we learned how much she likes the show, why she thinks that she could be like Talla, and also how she wants to “stick with the middlemen” as part of her strategy to make it to the end and win.

CarterMatt – What made you want to try out for Big Brother Canada?

Emily Hawkin – I started watching the show and I realized ‘that looks like a lot of fun,’ and [casting] thinks I can do it too! That’s why I’m here.

If you could compare yourself to someone from Big Brother Canada or Big Brother US, who would it be?

Maybe Talla, because I’m a weirdo!

What’s something about you that would surprise people?

I think people are going to be surprised at how strong I am. They’ll see me and be like ‘eh,’ but then they’ll be like ‘don’t hurt me’ (laughs). I also think that I’m pretty athletic and people don’t know that, either.

Do you have a specific strategy entering the house?

Kind of. I’m going to… Wait, can I trust you?

Yes.

Okay, so I’m trusting you. You’re the first person in my alliance. I’m going to be on really good terms with the strong players, and I’m going to align myself with the middlemen because there’s a time when the middle people start outnumbering all the strong people and the strong people go. I’m going to stick with the middlemen.

How are you going to implement that strategy?

Be nice to everybody, get everyone to like me. I’m not going to destroy it in the competitions, and I’m going to make everyone have a lot of fun so they don’t get rid of me.

What do you think your biggest weakness could be?

I think I’m going to have to get rid of people I actually like, just because they may not be best for my game. I have to keep the game #1 priority.

Is there anything that you’re nervous about entering the house?

There are a BUNCH of things I’m nervous about, like being filmed 24/7 which is kind of crazy. I’m mostly channeling my nervousness into excitement. Anything that I was nervous about I’m kind of excited about, so I don’t think I’m too nervous about anything anymore.

Other than winning the money, what’s the one thing you’re hoping to get out of this experience? Are you hoping for fame, romance, or just a good experience?

I don’t know if I’ve ever said I wanted to be famous, but maybe this will help me get a gig (laughs). I don’t know! I hope that I get to meet a bunch of cool people and that someone will come up to me on the street and be like ‘I love the way you played’ and I’ll be like ‘thanks, man.’

Our snap judgment

Emily is a bit of a cross between Willow from Big Brother Canada 3 and Zooey Deschanel’s character from New Girl — she’s funny, quirky, and we like that she played along with these questions in a way we don’t often get. We’re not sure she could win at the end (unlike Willow, who we actually picked to win season 3), but she’s capable of making it really far just because she’s likable and she won’t annoy anyone.
