Game of Thrones season 7: Jim Broadbent role strongly hinted at
Speaking per ScreenCrush in a new interview, Broadbent passed along the following message on the subject of who he will be playing: “I’m a maester, an archmaester. I’m an old professor character.” Broadbent also added that he will appear in five upcoming episodes, which is a rather large arc that shows that he’s not just going to be the second coming of Brother Ray or any other notable guest character. All signs, at least to us, suggest that he will be one of the Citaedel’s archmaesters. We’re sure that Sam is going to have a significant role in this saga before the story is over, and this could be a part connected to that in some way.
The fact that we even got this much information on the Jim Broadbent role is rather amazing in itself, largely because this is not the sort of show that tends to give away a plethora of information about anything. This is especially the case in a post season 5 world where the story is now officially ahead of the George R.R. Martin books. We do think at times that the show gets a little too obsessive with the heavy cloak of secrecy, but we get it given that one small secret getting out could lead to a snowball where some of the eagle-eyed fans out there would piece together almost every element of the show.
Ultimately, knowing this information doesn’t impact the story of the show too much one way or another. The majority of it is still likely to stay under wraps until we get closer to the summer. The show’s delayed this year due to a revised shooting schedule, and since we’re only getting seven episodes this year as opposed to the typical ten, there is a good chance that there could be even more secrecy than usual since there’s only so much that can actually be given away.
