‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 4: No plans for Bill Paxton to return before death
Sources close to the show confirmed the news to Entertainment Weekly on Monday. While Paxton’s character of Garrett a.k.a. the Clairvoyant died at the end of season 1, the Framework twist on the recent winter finale suggested that Coulson and the rest of the team were in an alternate universe ruled by Hydra. As a result of that, there was a slight chance that he could still be alive. After all, it was already confirmed that Brett Dalton would be returning as Grant Ward, in what is in some ways the fourth different incarnation of this character he’s played since first joining the show.
While Paxton is not returning, the folks at Marvel did release a statement expressing their condolences:
“Marvel is deeply saddened by the loss of Bill Paxton; his contributions to the Marvel Universe will be remembered fondly.”
Below, you can also see a personal tribute that Dalton paid to Paxton on social media. The two worked a good bit together during Bill’s arc on the show, and we have to imagine that he is one of those actors the show wishes that they had for longer than they did.
Paxton’s recent TV gig in Training Day was completed prior to his passing, and there are at present plans to honor him on the next new episode of the show airing on Thursday night. There are likely even still to be many other tributes coming as we move further along; last night, Jennifer Aniston specifically acknowledged his passing prior to the start of the In Memoriam segment, and you could clearly see her getting chocked up while introducing the rest of the package.
