‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 4, episode 16 preview: ‘Agents of HYDRA’ is born?
Tonight, “Agents of SHIELD” delivered to you an installment in “Self Control” that can be best defined with one word: Crazy. There was a lot that happened, and the struggle was certainly real in terms of bridging the gap between what was real and what was all a fabrication of the mind, a tool of Radcliffe, or something else entirely.
The one thing that we do know to be real for certain moving forward is that there is a hiatus on the horizon. There is no new episode of the show airing on ABC next week; as a matter of fact, there will not be a new installment until we roll around to Tuesday, April 4. That’s a long period of time to wait, no? Hopefully, the show’s got some interesting ideas cooked up to make it worthwhile.
Well … the alternate universe within the framework is going to become an interesting setting for the remainder of the season, mostly because it’s going to be interesting to see precisely how long the show ends up actually lasting there — and the same goes for the fate of people like Jemma, who seemed to be buried six feet under at the end of the episode tonight.
As for whether or not this stretch of time could be the final episodes for the series, that is something that remains to be seen. The ratings for the show are not exactly inspiring a lot of confidence that this is a series with a lengthy future on the air, but we’ve definitely learned over time to never say never — it’s possible that there could be a shortened final season, or maybe the ratings are strong enough in other measures that the network may still figure out a way to keep it around. There will absolutely be enough time to figure things out when it comes to the future of “SHIELD” in the weeks ahead, so stay tuned.
