Will Sister Mary Cynthia return to Call the Midwife season 6?
Tonight, Call the Midwife delivered a powerful episode that brought out emotion, tears, heartbreak, and maybe a few moments of happiness here and there. However, it also saw Sister Mary Cynthia depart right at a time when we were starting to see more of her recovery.
So will the character return to the series at some point over the final episodes this season? There’s a reason to feel optimistic, mostly because of the fact that she’s been around virtually from the beginning. She’s not someone who’s being thrown into the mix now out of the blue. We’re invested in her story, and some of what’s happened to her ever since the attack in season 5 is heartbreaking.
One of the biggest reasons that we will see her again is that even in spite of the devastation, we do still think that this is a show very much about hope. You want to see some of these characters get better, and have futures that have an element of optimism and joy to them. Admittedly, there was not a whole lot of joy in anything that Mary Cynthia experienced so far this season. The goal in bringing her back is seeing an opportunity to turn that around.
If for whatever reason there is simply not enough time to bring in an update on her condition over the course of this season, we feel confident that one will be coming in the future. Given that the BBC already renewed Call the Midwife for several years, there is no hurry to resolve ANY storyline. The show can take its time, which is a luxury that many others are not afforded. The most important thing is now getting this right, and making sure her return has the impact that you would hope for it to.
For now, there are still two more stories to go this season. We shall see what happens.
