‘Power’ season 4 premiere date: How will ‘American Gods’ influence it?
Today, Starz confirmed that “American Gods” will premiere on Sunday, April 30. How will that influence the ‘Power’ season 4 premiere date? For the sake of this article, let’s dive into that a little deeper.
As a series, “American Gods” will run for ten episodes. This means that the earliest that the Neil Gaiman adaptation ends is on Sunday, July 2. This is assuming that the series does not take a week off for Memorial Day Weekend. If that happens, the finale date would be set for Sunday, July 9 — provided further there are no two-hour episodes.
As this relates to the Omari Hardwick series, “Power” season 4 could premiere as early as Sunday, July 9. The network could still wait until later, given that they didn’t have to premiere “American Gods” as late as they did. For reference, season 3 premiered on July 17. With that, it’s reasonable for Starz to wait until July 16 to get things started of they want. They could choose to also start earlier, given this could help get “Outlander” on the air earlier, as well.
Ultimately, the big takeaway that we get from these discussions is that the job of a network programmer is never easy. You want to put your show in the best spot possible to succeed, and that’s especially true for “Power.” For one, the show is incredible, and you want to celebrate quality as best you can. Also, it’s your top-rated show. The only thing you want to avoid is premiering on the same night as “Game of Thrones.” As reported yesterday, odds are that the two will collide at some point, but this is something that the network likely expects.
Now that this discussion is mapped out, the waiting game continues. Odds are that Starz will release a teaser later this spring, and a trailer in the weeks that follow that.
