‘Reign’ season 4, episode 3 preview: Mary makes a key decision
“Reign” is in the midst of its final season, and with that, you’re probably going to see this become more than ever a show about choices — and rather difficult ones to go along with that. Mary is the Queen of Scots! (Duh, you already know that.) When you have someone who is in a position of so much power, what you end up seeing is a series of lose-lose situations that they have to face, ones where there is no easy recourse or way for them to get out of the present dilemma.
The next new episode is entitled “Leaps of Faith,” and if THAT doesn’t tell you that we’re going to be looking straight in the face of a really big episode for this character, we don’t know what will.
Synopsis – “Gideon (Ben Geurens) shows Mary (Adelaide Kane) what life could be like if she chose love over country. Catherine (Megan Follows) fights to cover King Charles’ (Spencer MacPherson) increasingly erratic behavior, while Claude (Rose Williams) finds an unlikely enemy in her sister Leeza (guest star Anastasia Phillips).”
Romance is going to be a big theme for the rest of the season, but it’s far from the only thing going on. Mary is a woman who is just trying to figure out what the best thing for her to do in the situation that she’s in, and unfortunately, she’s in a pretty impossible situation.
Promo – This does make it rather clear that we’re looking very much at a story that is largely about love — but, at the same time also a story about politics. What we mean by that is that we’re going to be seeing Mary consider strongly the political ramifications that could go along with marrying someone like Gideon, and what this could mean for her future as both a ruler and someone who could overtake Elizabeth. (It’s a little bad we know how that story ends.)
