Thursday ratings: Celebrating ‘Supernatural’; ‘Chicago Med’ – ‘The Blacklist’ renewal odds

The Blacklist logo any seasonYou see those three shows in the title? That’s what we are focusing our ratings piece on today given that all of #TGIT is already renewed, “The Big Bang Theory” is surely coming back, and we’re already assuming that “Training Day” is dead on arrival.

Let’s start with “Supernatural” – Yes, the show’s officially coming back already, but don’t stop us from talking about it here! When we’ve got great ratings news to report, we’re going to do so just because the idea of depressing people in 2017 is so old at this point.

Thursday’s episode generated a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic, a healthy increase the further reminds you that “Supernatural” is the Energizer Bunny and we fully look forward to season 40 where Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles fight monsters while also searching for their AARP cards.

“Chicago Med” keeps on beating – We’re not going out on a limb really in saying that “Chicago Med” is going to be renewed for another season. Still, we’re confident in saying it so let’s keep beating the drum: “Chicago Med” will be renewed for another season. It drew a 1.2 rating in the demo last night despite not having a great lead-in. Given how this was an AWESOME episode anchored by Brian Tee ripping out our heart and stomping on it, the quality’s going to get people to stick around and keep watching.

“The Blacklist” a.k.a. bubble time – How’s James Spader and company doing? Well, at least the show’s doing a little bit better than Red is in the promos for next week’s episode — the last one until April. “The Architect” drew a 0.9 rating, which isn’t great and it makes you wonder more of why NBC ordered a spin-off in the first place.

The biggest reason to renew “The Blacklist” is because you want the characters on the show to have some closure. The biggest reason to cancel it is because you can, understandably, think of shows that would probably fare better. “Chicago Justice” in this timeslot would probably do fine. We do really like “The Blacklist” and love writing about the show, but it seriously needs a shot in the arm or two or three.
