‘Criminal Minds’ season 12, episde 13 preview: A longer look at ‘Spencer’

Spencer -Tonight, there is another new episode of “Criminal Minds” coming on the air in “Spencer,” and just the mere mention of that title along should be enough of a cause for anxiety. Just look back at the episodes entitled “Penelope,” “JJ,” and “Morgan” for evidence as to precisely how worried that you should be. These episodes typically revolve around one of the members of the BAU in grave danger, and this is precisely also what we’re going to be seeing here.

Within this sneak peek below, you get a sense as to precisely what is befalling Matthew Gray Gubler’s character in terms of terrible stuff. He’s locked up in a Mexican prison, presumably for a crime that he did not commit. Unfortunately, there is not all that much when it comes to recourse that he has, given that there is only so much of his time before getting into the prison that he even remembers.

What we end up seeing over the course of this episode is a psychological study into who Reid is, what he wants, and also what he is willing to do in order to help those who are close to him. There is no better friend that someone can have out there other than him, given that you know that he is going to fight for you, and do everything that he can in an effort to ensure that justice is served or that you are okay in the end.

This brings us to what we think is Reid’s biggest weakness, and that is his own inability to take care of himself. We’ve seen now several different occasions in which he’s shown an ability and an affinity for taking care of others. It’s finding this sort of singular focus on his own care that he’s struggled with from time to time. He’s allowed himself to get in harm’s way, and on this current arc he’s tried so hard to help his mother Diana that there could be some personal consequences that he runs into as a result.
