‘Timeless’ finale spoilers: ‘The Red Scare,’ Joe McCarthy, and potentially a season 2 cliffhanger

Timeless -Tonight, “Timeless” brought us an episode that we found to be absolutely entertaining for many different reasons. We were, after all, getting a chance to head back to the era of Al Capone, and see in the process “Supernatural” alum Misha Collins in the role of Eliot Ness. There was plenty of fun to be had in the hour, but at the same time we don’t want to diminish the fact that we also had some big developments moving into the finale.

What we can tell you now about the final episode of season 1 is that the title is “The Red Scare,” and you’ll be moving forward into one of the most paranoid times of American history (other than right now, that is) in the age of Senator Joe McCarthy, a man out to label anyone a Communist who will listen. The mission will of course still take center stage more so than the era — what matters most in this episode is that multiple Rittenhouse leaders are going to be present, and this is a chance for the Time Team to change everything.

Synopsis – “With one of our heroes’ lives on the line, the team chases Flynn (Goran Visnjic) to 1954 through the paranoid corridors of Joe McCarthy’s (guest star Spencer Garrett) Washington D.C., en route to a secret, once-a-generation meeting of Rittenhouse leaders. While there, Lucy (Abigail Spencer) must wager the ultimate sacrifice to save history as we know it.”

As for whether or not there’s going to be a really big cliffhanger at the end of this, it’s a risky proposition. There may be no better way to entice NBC to give you a second season than writing this sort of thing into the episode; however, at the same time doing so may mean that nobody gets answers in the event that the show gets canceled.
