Grammys 2017: Adele opens show with ‘Hello’ performance
Tonight, the Grammys are airing on CBS, and of course this meant that we were getting a chance to see something that we’ll be seeing a lot of tonight: Performances!
The show started off with someone who is certainly familiar with being on the show over the years: Adele. The nominee and frequent winner opened the show tonight with “Hello,” one of her biggest hits — even though the song’s a good sixteen months or so old now.
In terms of Adele’s voice, there is no denying her — she’s sensational! The big question that you have to wonder is if this was the right choice to open the show. We like it, mostly because there were a few surprisingly-timely lyrics in what she was choosing to sing. However, what was interesting about it was this was a much slower song than we usually see as an opening number. They often like to get things going with something that is a little bit more high-energy.
Adele is already a 12-time Grammy winner entering the start of the show, so we’ll see what happens as we get further and further into the show. The great thing about having her as a nominee is that her personality when she’s giving speeches is almost a complete 180 from what she does as a performer. She’s often funny and off-the-cuff, and she could have some great insight on her life and the world as she sees it. She’s pretty private away from the show, so this is not a sort of insight that we tend to get a lot of insight of when she’s not in the process of promoting an album.
One final thought is clearly just that it’s nice to be reminded at the start of the show that there are some big names who are there and aren’t boycotting the show.
