‘Supergirl’ season 2 spoilers: First news on the Mr. Mxyzptlk story

Supergirl -

Earlier this season, the news was revealed that Mr. Mxyzptlk was going to be appearing on “Supergirl” this year. Beyond just having a name that is almost impossible to pronounce, this impish character from another dimension is known as a troublemaker throughout the Superman comic books. He’s a little bit of an oddity insofar as villains go — in some iterations, he’s simply a bringer of mischief. In others, he is far more of a sinister villain.

So what version of the character are we going to be seeing on “Supergirl”? Based on the details that were just released for the upcoming February 20 episode entitled “Mr. & Mrs. Mxyzptlk,” we’re going to be seeing this character (played here by Peter Gadiot) arrive professing his great love for Kara. Being the nice person that she is, she tries to let the character down easy. That may have been a bad decision, since it sends the character on a tear across National City.

Interestingly enough, what this ends up leading to is some tension between Kara and Mon-El, given that he is familiar with imps like Mr. Mxyzptlk on Daxam. He’s got a good idea as to how to get rid of him, but it may not be something that Kara is willing to do.

Also in this episode, you’re going to see another potentially-fun storyline for Maggie and Alex as the two get a chance to spend their first Valentine’s Day together. Hey, they’re finding a way to have a normal relationship in the midst of the chaos! We figure that this relationship is going to be a great way to ground the series as we push further and further into the season. It’s certainly possible that we could end up seeing more of a relationship between Kara and Mon-El as things progress, but we’ve clearly already gotten a sense that this is going to have its fair share of highs and lows.
