‘The Blacklist: Redemption’ spoilers: First news on series premiere

Tonight, “The Blacklist” proper is returning to NBC after a brief hiatus, but in looking beyond this for a moment, there is still “The Blacklist: Redemption” on the horizon. The spin-off series is set to feature Tom Keen front and center, but odds are that you already know this if you’ve been reading the site since we cover all things Blacklist quite heavily. How could we not with someone like James Spader at the helm?

What we do have for you today are some of the first details for the February 23 premiere entitled “Leland Bray,” which suggests to us that the show is very much borrowing one pattern from the original series in naming their episodes after potential adversaries that are going to be taken down. The main difference this time is that Tom, unlike his now-wife Elizabeth Keen, isn’t working with law enforcement. He’s teaming up instead with Scottie Hargrave and others to take on the job of reformed criminals trying to do good in the world. Oh, and he’ll also learn a little bit more about his family in the process.

Check out the full synopsis for this episode below:

“A routine trip to New York turns dangerous when ex-operative Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold) is recruited by Scottie Hargrave (Famke Janssen), the head of an international security firm, to help rescue a kidnapped CIA agent. During the mission, Tom discovers evidence of a conspiracy within his own family.”

The relationship to follow here is absolutely the one between Tom and Scottie given the fact that she is his mother, but at the same time there’s not universal knowledge of the fact. It’s with this in mind, especially on Scottie’s part, that the relationship between these two characters is going to be so interesting to watch over the course of the season. We’re excited to finally have more of a full-time TV gig for Famke Janssen after “How to Get away with Murder,” so we’ll just have to see where this leads. Also with the Reddington/Liz  connection mystery still lingering in the air after four seasons, we are thrilled that they aren’t doing that with this spin off.
