SAG Awards 2017: Lily Tomlin, Dolly Parton give tremendous Lifetime Achievement presentation

The Lifetime Achievement Award was handed down on the SAG Awards on Sunday night, and it was handed down to a woman who somehow, was underrated for most of her career: Lily Tomlin. She always delivered great performances, and she also knows how to deliver a heck of a speech.

This moment tonight was almost certainly everything that you could possibly want it to be and then some. There was some tremendous humor in it — she made fun of herself, gave some advice to Hollywood, and then also had a few political moments in mocking “alternative facts” and other issues that were going on in the country. However, at the same time we would not label this speech as overly political, mostly because so much of it was geared more towards her career.

You can see the entire speech by Tomlin below; if you love her or even have the faintest bit of familiarity with her, we have a feeling that you are going to enjoy it either way. We don’t think it’s going to get headlines the same way that the Meryl Streep speech did at the Golden Globes, but that does not make it any less fantastic.

Before we sign off on this article, there is one other thing that we do want to specifically highlight here, and that is the outstanding speech leading up to it by Dolly Parton. While it was a little silly and all of the jokes did not precisely land, this was vintage Dolly — it was everything that you could want from her as she introduced someone she considered to be a lifelong and very dear friend.

Given that Tomlin still has “Grace & Frankie” and so much other work to come in her career, we have a feeling that there are going to be plenty more opportunities coming up in order to appreciate her work.

What did you think about Tomlin’s acceptance speech, and everything that she had to say? Share in the comments.
