‘Call the Midwife’ season 6 cast still hopeful Miranda Hart will return someday
Sometimes in the world of television, things turn on a dime, and that does appear to be what transpired recently with The BBC and “Call the Midwife.” As you may recall, originally Miranda Hart was going to be a part of the sixth season in the role of Chummy, but unfortunately had to withdraw at the last minute due to some unexpected commitments getting in the way. To say that this cased a domino effect would be an understatement, given that there were many changes that had to be made by creator Heidi Thomas at the last minute to accommodate the change. Originally, the thinking was that she would be around for a full storyline, and what obviously turned out to not be the case.
Luckily, the good news is that these issues, at least for the time being, do not appear to be having all that great of an impact on the series as we start to move towards the future. Everyone in the cast still seems to be reasonably eager to have Hart back, but it is all a matter of time. While at the National Television Awards earlier this week, where the series was honored with the Period Drama prize, actor Stephen McGann (who plays Dr. Turner) had the following to say per Digital Spy:
“She is one of the CTM family, we absolutely love [her] … If you want to come back, we can’t wait to see you.”
Given that the show has already been renewed for several more seasons, we do retain a certain degree of confidence that we are going to see Hart back on board eventually. For us, this is largely a matter of timing and finding the right spot for her story to be inserted into the mix once more. Even if it is a small appearance down the road to celebrate Chummy’s legacy, we’d be down for that — it certainly seems more likely than Jessica Raine coming back, though we’d also be happy to see that happen.
