‘Arrow’ season 5: Let’s entertain a ‘Thea is Prometheus’ theory…

Prometheus -

Throughout the “Arrow” hiatus, some time has been spent looking at some Prometheus theories. Why? Mostly because it’s fun. If the show is slapping a mask on someone, it only seems right to spend hours upon hours trying to figure out who this someone is.

In looking around the internet, one of the best theories out there is the one that Tommy Merlyn is somehow still alive and causing mayhem. It’s not terrible in theory, since the character seems to be of similar body type. It’s just hard to figure out how “Arrow” pries Colin Donnell away from “Chicago Med” long enough for him to have any impact on this story. Also, why in the world would Tommy want to destroy his best friend given the last moment the two of them had?

Meanwhile, Billy Malone is another name that’s out there … but we’re pretty sure we just saw Oliver kill him. The only reason that this was a theory that we had under consideration was simply for the fact that Tyler Ritter was a big name for the show to cast. It still feels like Oliver would’ve recognized him if they had a history together, which is a big part of the Prometheus lore. There are plenty of theories out there about Laurel, about some of the new people we’re about to meet like Talia al Ghul, and that it is someone in Russia who we’ve spent a little bit of time with in flashbacks.

In the end, the latter is probably the one with the most validity to it just because this person seems to know Oliver’s history, and there are EXTREMELY dangerous people connected to the Bravta.

For the time being, though, our favorite theory when it comes to sheer entertainment value may be as follows: Thea is Prometheus. It’s incredibly unlikely and in some ways incredibly stupid, but there are some fun ideas here to explore.

The long game – If you think back, Thea was responsible for killing Sara Lance under the influence of Malcolm Merlyn. What if she was actually more involved than she ever let on, and was susceptible to his teachings in the was of her mother Moira’s death? What if there is a part of her that blames Oliver for so much of what has gone wrong for her in her life?

The bloodlust – Many of the aftereffects of the Lazarus Pit have seemingly gone away for her, but what if they haven’t? What if this alter ego is her manifestation of them? She knows how to use bows and arrows, and this costume feels perfect to have come from Malcolm’s designated costume tailor.

The motive – Maybe it is out of revenge for destroying much of what she loved about the family, or maybe her mind’s been incredibly corrupted. Yet, maybe there is a certain amount of guilt she feels, as well. Maybe that’s why she’s been so reluctant to put on the Speedy costume.

The means – She has a lot of access to the Star City Police Department thanks to her job. Plus, she knows everything about him and it is easy to execute plans because of it.

Okay, we’ve detailed out a few reasons why this would be interesting, but there are so many reasons why there is a zero percent chance of this ever happening, starting of course with the sole fact that Prometheus is seemingly an average-sized man. Sure, Zoom’s height on “The Flash” fluctuated wildly, but Thea being so noticeably short would make things appear super obvious that the writers didn’t have a plan for the character in the early going.

Also, you’d have to REALLY sell that Thea secretly hated her brother or was going insane for this to work, given that there’s been so much time spent growing the relationship between these characters. The motive we’ve listed is a stretch.

Still, this is our favorite theory just because it’s so so bonkers, and we do want to see Prometheus be someone that matters as opposed to someone we’ve only known for a few episodes.

Is there any hope that this could be true, and who is your top candidate for Prometheus? Share in the comments or the poll below, and head over here to get some other “Arrow” news. (Photo: The CW.)
