‘Criminal Minds’ season 12: Further news on Jane Lynch’s return
The twelfth season of “Criminal Minds” has a number of exciting episodes coming up, but specifically, we know that one of the things many viewers are the most excited for is the return of Jane Lynch as Reid’s mother Diana. She’s a fantastic performer who’s been gone for the show for far too long, though it does almost feel strange to use the word “excited” given everything that Reid’s mother has went through. She was removed from the study for Alzheimer’s for budgetary reasons, and on the upcoming February 1 episode entitled “Surface Tension,” we are going to see her son Spencer make a big decision when it comes to her care.
We discussed this episode recently, but now we come with the added knowledge of an official CBS synopsis that offers up a little bit more in the way of information regarding what you can expect to see:
“When a bizarre hieroglyph found under a deceased homeless man’s armpit is the same from previous casualties a few years ago, the BAU is called in to investigate. Also, Reid decides to take his mother out of a clinical study early to bring her home with him.”
We figure that whatever transpires here is going to be emotional for everyone, given that we all want both Reid and Diana to be okay; unfortunately, at the same time we know that Alzheimer’s is not something that is simply going to get better one day. The events of this episode could in one way or another lead to “Spencer,” an upcoming episode that will likely be a game-changer for Reid’s story moving forward in the series.
For those of you who are looking for a video preview, CBS has a tendency to release those around a week or so before the next new episode airs. Rest assured that one is coming in this instance, but it may not be until Wednesday.
