People’s Choice Awards predictions: ‘Outlander,’ ‘Teen Wolf,’ Sam Heughan, ‘NCIS,’ and more

PCA -

Tonight, the People’s Choice Awards are going to be airing on CBS from Los Angeles, and as we prepare for it to air, we thought it’d be a little bit of fun to put on our thinking cap and try to figure out just where all the awards tonight could be going!

Note that the only criteria that we wanted to use when coming up with this article is trying to figure out precisely how we think voters for this particular show are going to vote — which is often a tricky proposition. These awards are notoriously unpredictable, since there are many casual fans who vote and don’t necessarily discuss it on social media. With that being said, we know there were several large fandoms out there voting, and we have to give some of them preference over ones with a following that is a little bit more unknown.

Update: We’re updating the winners’ list live right now over here. Let’s say that we’re not batting 100% with these predictions.

Favorite TV Show – “Outlander.” We wrote earlier this week that this could be perceived as an upset victory by many; however, we know the show and the devotion of its fans. This would not be a shock at all.

Favorite Network TV Comedy – “The Big Bang Theory.” It’s dominant in this category. There’s no reason to think that this is going to change this year.

Favorite Network TV Drama – “Grey’s Anatomy.” It’s a close race between this show and “Empire,” but we’re going to lean towards “Grey’s” given how much of a winning resume that it has with this show.

Favorite Network TV Sci-Fi / Fantasy – “Supernatural.” Sure, “Arrow” and “The Flash” have a case, but the #SPNFamily is one of the internet’s strongest voting blocks.

Favorite Cable TV Sci-Fi / Fantasy – “Teen Wolf.” It was close between this show and an upset favorite in “Shadowhunters.” Don’t be surprised if the latter emerges as the winner.

Favorite Network TV Crime Drama – “NCIS.” This is a show that airs on CBS. It’s also the #1 scripted drama on TV. Therefore, you’ve gotta think that this is a show that will be able to keep pulling in awards.

Favorite Comedic TV Actor – Jim Parsons, “The Big Bang Theory.” As we said earlier, this show is very kind to all things “Big Bang.”

Favorite Comedic TV Actress – Kaley Cuoco, “The Big Bang Theory.” Maybe if Anna Faris was co-hosting the show tonight instead of Joel McHale, we’d be more inclined to pick her.

Favorite Dramatic TV Actor – Terrence Howard, “Empire.” This is admittedly the one we’re the most torn over, given that we could see someone like Taylor Kinney winning in an upset.

Favorite Dramatic TV Actress – Ellen Pompeo, “Grey’s Anatomy.” The PCAs love “Grey’s Anatomy.” She’s got this more than likely.

Favorite Crime TV Actor – Donnie Wahlberg, “Blue Bloods.” We’re picking the upset here! We just think this show remaining so steady over time deserves some recognition.

Favorite Crime TV Actress – Mariska Hargitay, “Law & Order: SVU.” It’s one of the times we’re picking against a CBS actress; we just see Mariska as so beloved and integral to her show that it’s hard to see the people going in a different direction.

Favorite Cable TV Comedy – “Baby Daddy.” We have no idea where the voters are going to go here. Therefore, we’re going to say that the younger voters will have figured this out.

Favorite Cable TV Drama – “Pretty Little Liars.” We’re pretty confident about this one, given that the “PLL” army is a far stronger voting block than any other nominee listed.

Favorite Cable TV Actor – Rami Malek, “Mr. Robot.” There’s no clear winner here, so we’re just going with the best overall performance here.

Favorite Cable TV Actress – Lucy Hale, “Pretty Little Liars.” Even if she and fellow nominee Ashley Benson split some of the vote, she still should get this.

Premium Drama Series – “Power.” We think the “Power” fans want this the most. Simply as that.

Premium Comedy Series – “Fuller House.” It fits the most into the PCAs demographic than the other choices.

Premium Sci-Fi / Fantasy Series – “Outlander.” If it doesn’t win the top prize, we’re pretty darn confident that it has this one.

Premium Series Actor – Dwayne Johnson, “Ballers.” By far, he’s the most familiar name of the people listed.

Premium Series Actress – Julian Louis-Dreyfus, “Veep.” Even if voters haven’t see this show, we do still think that they will vote for her on the basis of “Seinfeld.”

Favorite Sci-Fi / Fantasy Actor – Sam Heughan, “Outlander.” This one could be close given that Jensen Ackles of “Supernatural” won last year. We just think that the momentum is mere for “Outlander” based on the trends we’ve seen.

Favorite Sci-Fi / Fantasy Actress – Caitriona Balfe, “Outlander.” The same thing goes for Cait, and with her not having to face off against anyone from “Supernatural,” it’s easy to be even more confident here.
