Is ‘Homeland’ season 6 building already to series finale in season 8?
We already know that “Homeland” has been renewed by Showtime through the eighth season. Apparently, one of the reasons in which this happened was to further solidify a plan in which to conclude the series down the line. This is not a show that cast last forever — for one, there’s a reasonable chance that these characters do not live that long. It’s a crazy, tumultuous world, and even if they do live, there may be a point where some of them can actually put it behind them and live a normal life. It’s just something that they have not been able to do so far. There are some occasions in which you could say that trying to be a hero is an addiction. Meanwhile, there are others where trouble seemed to find them.
Is there already a plan in place to start building towards this end? All signs point to the answer being “yes” on this subject. Speaking to Deadline in a premiere postmortem, showrunner Alex Gansa confirmed this with the following message:
“I’m absolutely building the story toward a conclusion and, barring unforeseen world events, we do really hope to go abroad for the last two seasons and to end the story there. We also hope to get Carrie back into the intelligence agency business. She’s been out of it now for two seasons and I think it’s time that she goes back into the fold and then winds up doing her job overseas somewhere.”
Gansa notes that we could see the series end with Carrie in Israel, though how the show would make that work remains to be seen. They could shift the production overseas once more, but one of the reasons that they chose to film season 6 in New York was to allow Claire Danes to have some stability after traveling everywhere from South Africa to Germany as of late in order to work on this show. With its international flair, it does require a certain amount of a jet-setting lifestyle.
