‘Hawaii Five-0’ season 7, episode 14 preview: Lou Diamond Phillips and a trying case
Tonight’s new episode of “Hawaii Five-0” was an emotional one for many people out there (including us) – we pretty much destroyed an entire box of Kleenex watching Max say goodbye to the team. We love Masi Oka and have for many years, so it’s absolutely a bummer to see him go. At the same time, we do also recognize that he is extremely busy, so there may not have been a way for him to stay on the series and do everything else that he has on the go right now.
What’s exciting looking forward into next week’s “Ka laina ma ke one” (“Line in the Sand”) is that we are going to have a chance in order to see a notable guest star in Lou Diamond Phillips, one of our favorite actors out there (if you haven’t been watching him on “Longmire” we highly suggest checking it out). He’s going to be playing a tough-as-nails guy who is likely going to clash with some of the main characters. Seems to be par for the course when two different units are working on the same case.
Synopsis – “Five-0 must go up against an aggressive U.S. Marshal, Lincoln (Lou Diamond Phillips), when a man wanted for murder escapes capture and seeks asylum in the sovereign land belonging to the Nation of Hawaii.”
Will this man be able to find what he seeks there? It’s going to be tough given what he’s accused of, but what we appreciate about the idea of this story is that it touches on some difficult political issues, especially when you look at the history of the Nation of Hawaii and some of what it represents. (We’ve detailed a little bit about that over at the link.)
This episode is going to be the last one in the month of January, but hopefully, it does help to make the month go out with a bang instead of sobbing in a bucket of ice cream like we are tonight after watching Max leave. Beyond that, we’ll be entering the February sweeps, a time when networks are going to be pushing for new episodes as hard as they can.
Promo – This focuses primarily on the arrival of Phillips, and the sheer magnitude of this case given the location of the man being hunted. While it may not be as emotional as the episode revolving around Max’s departure, it could be powerful nonetheless.
