Even with no ‘Saturday Night Live’ tonight, Alec Baldwin still antagonizes Donald Trump
You have to give Alec Baldwin credit: If his goal is to relentlessly needle Donald Trump at all costs, then he is continuing to come up with some ways to make it happen … even when “Saturday Night Live” is not on the air for the weekend.
For the latest example of that, all you’ve got to do is look at the Instagram account for the actor, where he posted yesterday a photo of himself wearing a Russian version of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” hat. For those of you who’ve been following the news, this should be pretty obvious in terms of what it’s a reference to. Also, it’s pretty funny so long as you don’t take politics too seriously one way or another. Just think of the effort someone took to make that hat in the first place.
One of the more interesting phenomena in covering Baldwin’s portrayal of Trump over the season is how much glee he seems to be getting out of agitating the President-elect. He’s not getting paid anywhere near his typical salary for the part, and it requires a huge chunk of his weekend time. Baldwin’s been successful enough over the course of his career that he never needs to work again. Yet, there’s something that is inspiring him to continue to push forward with this impression, and we think it’s probably a combination of him enjoying the work and enjoying the reaction that he getting from it — both positive and negative. Alec’s never been a guy who craved universal appeal from anyone.
