‘The Originals’ season 4 spoilers: The good and bad news for Hayley and Elijah

Originals -The fourth season of “The Originals” is going to be back on The CW a little bit later in the spring, and there is a tremendous amount to be excited about when it comes to that. We’ll finally learn what happens to the Mikaelson family in coffins, and precisely just how much has changed in the city of New Orleans in the five years in which they’ve been gone. Time jumps can at times be a device to simply move past a potentially-boring time, but we think there’s added weight here. The jump forward needed to be long enough that there would be consequences for Klaus and Elijah being away. Everyone else needed to realize and feel their absence a little bit, and having them gone for six months or even a year wouldn’t have made that as obvious.

As executive producer Julie Plec reveals to Entertainment Weekly, there are going to be some significant complications for many characters, but Elijah in particular when he does so happen to wake up at some point when the fourth season begins:

“When we come back, obviously all of our heroes are still down. In fact, it’s Hayley’s role to figure out a way to deliver on her promise to rescue them … So when that day does come, and Elijah does return to the fold, he’s thrown back into a relationship that he’s been absent from, a brother that’s been captive and had god knows what done to him over the last half a decade, and a crumbling Mikaelson dynasty in New Orleans that he feels very compelled to rebuild.”

Who wants to bet that rebuilding said dynasty will not be easy? That’s the thing when you’ve been gone for a lengthy period of time — people do seem fine to move forward without you.
