‘Supernatural’ season 12, episode 9 synopsis: On Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles in ‘First Blood’

Supernatural -

On the surface, there is one thing that is pretty clear about the upcoming winter premiere of “Supernatural” airing on Thursday, January 26: The powers-that-be have a lot of confidence in it. The episode is called “First Blood”, is directed by co-showrunner Robert Singer and written by fellow showrunner Andrew Dabb. You don’t get too many opportunities to see this kind of power behind an episode during a season.

When you look at this alone, that’s a serious reason to be excited. We like to think that the synopsis below only adds to that excitement:

“After being arrested for the attempted assassination of the President of The United States, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) must find a way out of an underground, government-run, detention facility in the middle of nowhere. Determined to find her sons, Mary (guest star Samantha Smith) and Castiel (Misha Collins) seek assistance from an unlikely source.”

What we like about this synopsis in particular is that there is a very real chance that Sam and Dean kick off their journey to escape, and in the process they do so without Castiel and Mary knowing about it. How crazy would it be if these two ended up getting themselves in trouble while trying to save the Winchester brothers, leading to a position where Sam and Dean have to save them? We’re not saying that it is for sure happening, but we do think that it would be a lot of fun to watch.

One way or another, we cannot imagine that this is an open-and-shut episode where everything that happens here proves to be unimportant down the line. We do imagine that there will be some ways in which all of it has an impact as we move a little bit further into the future.
