‘Gotham’ season 3 spoilers: Is Jerome living or dead?

Gotham -One of the big questions moving into the next part of “Gotham” season 3 (coming back January 16) revolves around the status of Jerome, Cameron Monaghan’s particularly terrifying character who is a little bit of a proto-Joker. There’s been a lot hype circling around his character over the past few weeks via social media, with questions surfacing as to whether or not the character is living or dead.

For the time being, we do feel like we’ve got an answer for you: He’s dead … at least for when the time the show comes back. Given that the show is effectively back for only three weeks in the month of January, there’s not going to be a whole lot of time to give him a lengthy arc and a character like Jerome (who fans absolutely love) needs a nice big arc. Producers are in a situation where they have to use the character whenever they can; due to his commitments on “Shameless,” Monaghan wouldn’t be available for more than a few episodes at most, and the show therefore is likely using him in whatever form that they can, living or dead, for their January episodes.

By the time the January 23 episode entitled “Smile Like You Mean It” comes around, you will be seeing some attempts made to revive this character, with one of the main instigators of the cause being a man named Dwight, played by David Dastmalchian. (Dastmalchian is in the midst of a pretty great television season right now, given that he is also the notorious Murdoc over on CBS’ “MacGyver.”) Gordon and Bullock have to figure out a way to slow this guy down in order to keep the revival from happening, but the problem is that there may be other Jerome acolytes in the city willing to lend a helping hand.

As for what else is going to be coming in this particular episode, expect to continue to see Barbara and Nygma’s plans for the city — and to throttle Penguin and his power once and for all — escalate to new heights. If Jerome does come back, this could mean an even bigger story arc for Barbara since she is essentially “Gotham’s” version of Harley Quinn who in this universe, would likely still be a toddler.
