See Carrie Fisher’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ appearance, Princess Leia beach sketch (video)

SNL -In the midst of all of the amazing work that Carrie Fisher did over the course of her career, one of the most interesting and unusual bits of footage that we’ve seen unearthed since her tragic death earlier this week comes from her appearance on “Saturday Night Live.” It’s something that many people out there may not have seen before (we certainly weren’t aware of it), and you can check it out in full below.

In this clip, you can see first and foremost a really silly monologue from Fisher, which comes in the height of “Star Wars” mania back in 1978. She jokes that she had to come out in costume for the opening, since otherwise nobody would know who she was. She then makes a series of jokes about related “Star Wars” characters and eventually is encouraged by Obi-Wan Kenobi to have a good time for the show. Despite it being almost four decades ago, we really don’t think that there is necessarily all that much that is different about this monologue than some of the ones that we see today.

You can also check out below a sketch from the show featuring Fisher attending a beach party as Princess Leia, showing that she can have a pretty good time. We’re not entirely sure what the joke here precisely is, but there’s definitely a lot of energy here and it showed further that Carrie was willing to embrace this role to full effect.

“SNL” and “Star Wars” have had a good relationship for decades. The “Star Wars” audition tape sketches are some of the stuff of legend, and earlier this year Adam Driver form “The Force Awakens” hosted the show. On January 14, Felicity Jones of “Rogue One” is taking on the gig as host, and we certainly hope that there is some way to honor Fisher, even if it is brief, over the course of the night.
