‘Outlander’ season 3 heads home for the holidays
We’ve now arrived at the day before the day before Christmas, otherwise known in our mind as one of the most impatient days of the year. You know that the holidays are just about here, so you want to see some of that magic arrive — yet, at the same exact time, you want to take in every moment.
We could wax poetic about this time of year all day long, but that’s not really the point of this article — instead, it’s meant more as a small filming update and indication that the third season of “Outlander” is home for the holidays! The photo below comes courtesy of executive producer Maril Davis on Twitter, and it gives you a sense of both Matt Roberts as director and that the show is working on its fifth season 3 episode in production. (Remember, the show doesn’t necessarily film everything in order, to it’s probably not accurate to assume that everything before 305 is filmed and that nothing after it is.)
We do at the very least know that a lot of footage has been filmed already of Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe apart, which is going to be a huge part of the first half of season 3 in particular given their characters’ separation and Claire’s journey to find Jamie by any means possible. We also know that Balfe and Tobias Menzies have spent a nice amount of time working together — one of the first photos released from this season shows Frank and Claire alongside her young child Brianna.
While we write this, unfortunately Starz has not handed down a premiere date just yet for season 3, and we don’t quite expect that to happen until around February. This is similar to how it’d be great to have a season 5 renewal (something we wrote about recently), but we don’t expect that until at the very least when the show is airing — and we’re not sure we even expect it then, either.
The show’s cast and crew are going to be heading back to work presumably not too long into the new year, so cheers to them for all of their hard work! Also, a very happy holidays to all of you reading. We may get another thing together by the end of the Christmas weekend to give you something further to check out, so stay tuned.
