‘The Bachelor’ spotlight: How nurse Danielle Maltby’s past, late fiance shapes potential future with Nick Viall

Danielle -There are two things that we know for sure about the upcoming season of “The Bachelor,” based on the cast that we’ve spotlighted so far — there are a ton of people who loved dolphins, and then also a ton of people who work as nurses in some shape or form. Danielle Maltby is one of them.

Is there anything that she does in order to stand out from the field of other people with similar occupations? In this latest edition of our show spotlight series below, this is something that we very much do our part to try and figure out. (Judging from her background, we’re betting that she will.)

Age – 25. She’s right within the sweet spot of most of Nick’s suitors.

Occupation – Neonatal nurse. For those unfamiliar, she works with newborn babies, including many that are suffering from some problems not long after birth. This has to be a tough-but-rewarding job, but Danielle seems to be someone who has overcome some obstacles and persevered on the way already.

Location – Nashville, Tennessee. She apparently moved here as a way to start fresh after the death of her fiance, which we imagine will be one of the main facets of her story on the show if she lasts longer than the first few weeks.

Things to know – Obviously, the tragedy surrounding her past is going to color a part of her story this season, and we hope that the edit portrays her still as a strong, independent woman rather than someone hindered or hampered in any way by tragedy. Too often this show goes for the sob-story angle, or features a Bachelor / Bachelorette sending someone home because they’re either “not ready” or don’t think they can live up to what the person had.

Beyond all of that, Danielle seems fairly fun — “The Sandlot” is one of her favorite movies (we’ll love this movie for…ev…er) and she also had this to say when asked what law she would break if she could do so without repercussions: “Pretty sure there’s a law in Louisiana or Tennessee that states you can’t eat ice cream on the sidewalk or something weird like that. I’ll break that one.”

How is she actually going to do? – Unfortunately, we don’t tend to see people on this show with tragic histories, Emily Maynard notwithstanding, make it particularly far the majority of the time on the show. Typically, they last long enough so that you can hear some of their story, but then they leave before we get to the international portion of the show. For the time being, we’re feeling like this is probably Danielle’s trajectory — but we do think she’s got a great sense of positivity around her despite some hardship and could be interesting to watch for a longer span of time.
