‘Fargo’ season 3 casts ‘Harry Potter’ actor David Thewlis

Fargo season 3What better time for some “Fargo” casting news than right in the middle of the winter? It definitely makes some sense tonally, and we’re even more excited just because of the person involved in this particular story.

According to a report coming in right now from Entertainment Weekly, David Thewlis (who played Remus Lupin in the “Harry Potter” films) has been cast in the important role of V.M. Vargas, described as “a mysterious loner and true capitalist who delivers Emmit (Ewan McGregor), the Parking Lot King of Minnesota, the bad news that he has just become partners with his employers, whose business interests lay outside the law.” It’s an exciting part just because of the fact that these characters, even when they seem normal, often tend to have a lot of darkness within. Also, the idea of any “mysterious loner” within this show’s universe is going to make us think of what Billy Bob Thornton brought to the first season of the show in the role of Lorne Malvo.

Thewlis joins a great cast for the upcoming season that includes Mary Elizabeth Winstead and “The Leftovers” alum Carrie Coon. It’s a good group of eclectic people, and one of the things that we’ve always loved about this show is that it tends to cast more from the vantage point of the right actor for the big name … even if some of the people involved this time around are familiar faces.

Hopefully, this new season of “Fargo” will be launching at some point in 2017. One of the primary reasons why we didn’t have a new season in 2016 was simply because of the fact that the producers needed there to be plenty of snow on the ground for filming to work, and there wasn’t enough time to get the show together during some of the winter months.
