The fourth season of “Sherlock” is officially less than two weeks away from airing on BBC One and PBS! Given precisely how long we wait year in and year out in order to see this show air, it’s the sort of series that is worthy of this sort of elaborate countdown in which we eagerly await the day in which it officially begins airing new episodes.
What we have for you today is a quick look at the new cast photo that was released recently by the network, which features Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, and the remainder of the rest of the show’s cast looking in a variety of different directions.
Is there some sort of hidden meaning to this picture? We figure that there is every reason in the world to wonder that, given that this is not a show that really tends to do a lot of things by accident. Maybe this is a signal for fractured character relationships, for a mystery to be going on within the room itself, or a representation of a larger theme. Or, maybe the photographer just thought that this was a fun way to capture the entire cast in the room together. Regardless, the one thing that we can say with some confidence is that this is a pretty fun photo, and one that is at least generating some conversation in the days leading up to season 4 starting.
One thing that you have to remember here is that we are in a time of the year now where there is really not all that much to talk about when it comes to television — many shows are in repeats, and the ones that are not are mostly airing various holiday specials. (Speaking of which, there are many coming to British television in the coming days — including one in “Doctor Who” that is also executive-produced by Steven Moffat.)
