‘Chicago PD’ season 4 spoilers: More news on Nick Wechsler’s arrival, serial-killer manhunt
“Chicago PD” is specifically going to return on Tuesday, January 3 to NBC, and it is a part of a two-hour crossover event with “Chicago Fire” that will revolve heavily around the Kelly Severide character. This is a key block that we will be spending much time previewing over the coming weeks.
For now, though, we want to take a moment beyond that episode to highlight the January 4 installment “Don’t Read the News,” which is going to be back in its old Wednesday night timeslot. NBC officially released a synopsis for this episode a little bit earlier in the week, and it details how we are going to see Lindsay make a big move forward in her personal life, while a serial killer is on the loose and “Revenge” alum Nick Wechsler is going to debut as Kenny Rixton, a man with ties to Voight’s past elsewhere in the department:
“After the body of young woman is found with multiple gunshot wounds, Intelligence uncovers details of her case that are similar to other deaths. They work to link all of these murders together to pin down the serial killer, and appease the families of the victims who have been looking for answers. Meanwhile, Lindsay (Sophia Bush) decides to meet her biological father (guest star Tony Crane) for the first time, and Voight (Jason Beghe) welcomes Kenny Rixton (guest star Nick Wechsler) to the team when Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) takes an undercover assignment.”
After the crossover, and with the potential for many more coming up down the line, we are somewhat pleased to see the show focus in during this episode a little bit more on the core group of characters we know in Intelligence, and allow us some further opportunities to get to see and know them even better. Serial-killer storylines with these shows are always particularly terrifying, especially since there is no guarantee that it is something that will be resolved at any point over the course of the episode. Stopping then is not always easy — didn’t you see “Se7en”?
Hopefully, NBC will release further information on the episode before it airs, but expect some threads from the Severide crossover to carry over.
