‘Shameless’ season 8: Emmy Rossum offered equal pay to William H. Macy

Fiona -There’s some good news coming out when it comes to “Shameless” and its season 8 prospects: There’s some progress! Unfortunately, the bad news is that there is still a hangup that could keep everything from coming together.

According to Variety, Showtime has offered star Emmy Rossum the same pay to her co-star William H. Macy for another season of the show — and one that the network wants to order and has been wanting to for some time. Resolving this negotiation seems to be one of the major issues.

The issue remains the same one that was reported first last week: Rossum is looking to earn more than Macy for the upcoming season to help compensate for the seasons in which she was paid less, a move her camp feels she deserves because of her status as the female lead of the show. Our feeling on it remains the same: She does deserve more for the work that she’s done on the show. Do we think that Macy was the selling point during the early years and deserved the highest salary for that? Absolutely, but the past few years Rossum’s easily been every bit the star that he is. We just hope that this is a situation that is resolved shortly, mostly because the last thing that we want to see is the show suffer for something like this.

If “Shameless” is renewed, we do think that it would be easy for Showtime to make season 8 its last, and we wouldn’t be mad with that — it’d be right up there with “Dexter,” “Weeds,” and some of the other long-running series the network put on the air over the years. While we do think that the Gallagher family’s adventures could go on for many years, maybe it’s time soon to envision what their lives could be like emerging from the rubble that is their current situation.
