‘Shameless’ season 7, episode 12 (finale) spoilers: Death hits the Gallagher family

Shameless -Tonight, “Shameless” is going to bring us a little bit closer to the end of the season, and unfortunately, they are going to be doing so in a fairly-devastating fashion given that by the time we reach the finale in one week’s time, death is going to be a major subject of conversation. The Gallagher family is not a group that is particularly well-known for handling situations of grief, pain, and loss, and as a result of that, we have to assume that they are going to struggle with the idea of doing so here. Of course, they will also probably think of a few different ways to distract themselves, which is by and large Gallagher code for “get into as much trouble as possible.”

While we will be back a little bit later with a full promo for the finale, we’ve got a few other details coming your way now!

Synopsis (via TV Guide) – “The Gallaghers deal with the loss of one of their own and grapple with mixed feelings about their grief. Meanwhile, Frank devises a new scheme, and Debbie, Carl and Liam get roped into it. Elsewhere, Lip takes steps to improve his future; and Kev and V get their revenge on Svetlana.”

We really want to think that Lip in particular can get his life in better shape, mostly because of his various missteps including the crisis with Helene and also his struggles with alcoholism.

What makes this finale potentially a little bit more ambiguous at the moment is the idea that it could be a series finale, given that much of the show’s fate at the moment hinges on negotiations that are going on with star Emmy Rossum. As previously reported, the actress is seeking a pay raise for season 8 that will put her at the same salary as her co-star William H. Macy, in addition to more money to make up for some of the disparities from the past. Hopefully, there will be a little more information out there at around the time the finale airs — otherwise, it’s going to be a long offseason while we sit around and wait.

Warning! Spoilers ahead from tonight…

It was Monica who died during tonight’s episode — with that, we imagine reactions will be mixed among the family as they all struggle in their own way to deal with this. For Frank, don’t expect him to give up the drugs easily.
