What is ‘The OA’? New trailer for mystery Netflix series launches

The OA -

For those of you looking for something interesting to watch over the course of the next several weeks, we may have an answer for you: “The OA.” Netflix on Monday unveiled the trailer for what may be the most mysterious project they’ve ever created: A science fiction project about a young woman who went missing for several years, and returns with memories and experiences that are difficult to explain or comprehend. What happened over that time, and how will it impact the present?

For those who loved “Westworld,” this feels like it will provoke and intrigue in many of the same ways. We’d go so far as to say that we’re more excited about this than even some of Netflix’s other recent projects. Who knows? Maybe this is something that we could cover with daily reviews…

The trailer below gives you a sense of the overall atmosphere and presence that the series will have, but it only gives you a small picture of what “The OA” could be. The synopsis below offers up some further insight:

“From Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij, the visionary filmmakers behind Sound of My Voice and The East, comes a powerful, mind-bending tale about identity, human connection and the borders between life and death. The Netflix original series The OA is an odyssey in eight chapters produced in partnership with Plan B Entertainment, Netflix and Anonymous Content. The groundbreaking series offers audiences a singular experience that upends notions about what long-format stories can be.”

One thing that we do know is that Netflix is brilliant for launching this when they are: It’s a time when most other networks are going quiet, and with that, they could have a chance to effectively dominate with this in terms of attention and discussion.
