‘The Voice’ finale: Billy Gilman performs ‘Because of Me’ original song; see music video

Billy -Tonight, “The Voice” and its final contestants are pulling out all of the stops, and that includes something that we’re personally rather glad to see become somewhat of a tradition: Performances of some original songs! These are effectively the winner’s singles, and they will be heavily promoted in the event that the artist who performs them ends up winning.

For Billy Gilman, what this means in some ways is almost a reintroduction to the recording industry given the fact that the’s been out there before, but in a different genre and still as a child artist. Now, he’s got a new sound that is fantastic in its own right. Going into the performance tonight, we don’t know too much about the song other than that its name is “Because of Me,” but we’re okay with limited information provided that it ends up being a song we’ll remember for some time after the fact. This could be the one that ends up winning Billy the competition!

Performance – Love the song. It also seems to fit him really well, which is rare for someone who is coming on the show and doesn’t have a lot of time to work with anyone. Apparently, this was originally meant to be a Maroon 5 song, so it is one that Adam Levine had at his disposal pretty easily.

Music video – This is easily the catchiest of the four winners’ singles, and we genuinely think that this would could at the very least be an adult-contemporary hit. We also like that this is a somewhat-domestic video; the guy’s walking his dog and chilling in the kitchen! We’re not sure how that Christmas tree fares come February, but otherwise this is a really nice video.
