‘Arrow’ season 5, episode 9 (winter finale): Who is Prometheus? We may have a clue…
Going into Wednesday night’s midseason finale for “Arrow,” one of the biggest questions that we had is simply the one in the title. Prometheus is such a big, bold, terrifying character, and of course with that, our curiosity was in overdrive trying to learn who was behind that infamous hood / mask combo. What made it all the more difficult to figure out was that we really didn’t have all that great of an indication as to who it really could be.
In the closing minutes of Wednesday night’s new episode, we learned a little more information, but not necessarily the name that so many were hoping to have. The main question that we started to wonder was whether or not Prometheus was a woman rather than a man; specifically, if it could be Susan Williams. She’s at the very least working with him, and that doesn’t mean great things for Oliver Queen given her own relationship with the guy. We do like the idea in a big way of her being the Big Bad, but if that’s the case, we’ll need an even deeper connection to the early days of the show.
We’re a little disappointed to not get an official reveal in the finale, but it felt at the same time like the show was giving us a lot in some other venues. Specifically, we got a chance to learn that Laurel is (somehow) still alive! We knew Katie Cassidy had more of a role coming on the show, and this may be it.
How in the world is this true? Well, we don’t quite know the answer to that at the moment, but there is certainly going to be a few more theories out there now that she is Prometheus in addition to the Susan ones. Maybe it’s an aftereffect of Flashpoint, or maybe something after her death corrupted her in such a way. No matter what, it’s clear that we’ve got quite a bit to think about as we move forward this season. Cassidy is going to be a regular moving forward.

I think Prometheus is indeed a woman, and the very one you mentioned — Susan Williams, the new journalist on the scene! Ollie’s new frenenemy?lover?whatever. I think clues were dropped with the modulator attached to poor dearly departed Officer Malone (we hardly knew ya and now you’ve been sacrificed for the plot). Oops! Did I say that? So, the modulator leaves the possibility of a woman’s voice altered. I think the “son of Clayborne” theory is a red herring that is actually a daughter. And I hope Laurel’s return is not an effect of the Flashpoint paradox but something grounded more in an earthly reality . . . like she had to go undercover or something, on a mission, maybe . . . Honestly, I always had a feeling Laurel wasn’t dead. Felicity’s joke about supposedly dead people showing up secretly like every other Wednesday was priceless and prepared me for the treat. Although, they better have a good reason. Let the explanation begin . . .
