‘Reign’ season 4 will be series’ last on The CW
There’s some rather-sad news coming out today for all fans of “Reign“: After four seasons (per Deadline), the show is going to be going off the air in 2017.
Do we consider this to be a cancellation? Not really, given the timing of the move and the potential as a result of it that the show can, at the very least, piece together something that serves as a worthy conclusion. Of course, with that said we would assume that the show would be on for a whole lot longer in the event that the ratings were as a whole stronger. It was never an enormous hit, for the first two seasons it put at the very least serviceable numbers up. It was in season 3 that the numbers started to slip to the point that we wondered whether the show, starring Adelaide Kane as Mary, Queen of Scots, would end up coming back for a fourth season at all.
The new season is going to premiere on Fridays in the new year, and will be joining “The Originals” following the end of “The Vampire Diaries” on the air. You can read a little bit more about the schedule on all of this by heading over to the link here.
For the most part, we’ll express gratitude to the folks over at The CW for being kind enough to pick this show up in the first place, and to give it a legitimate chance in order to stick around on the air. They didn’t have to give it four seasons, so the reaction we have is somewhat similar to “Beauty and the Beast” being sent off to pasture. We’ll always prefer this sort of announcement to one where the show is canceled after a full season airs and there is far less hope for proper closure.
