‘Doctor Who’ 2016 Christmas Special photo: Peter Capaldi and … a baby?

Baby -

The Christmas Special for “Doctor Who” is right around the corner, and in this particular article, we’re focusing on what may very well be one of the most ridiculous things we’ve seen associated with the show in a rather long time: The idea of The Doctor holding a small child. Who signed off on this, and who thought that this was even remotely a good idea? We can think off the top of our head immediately of a series of reasons as to why this is a particularly bad idea, with many of them starting with “we wouldn’t trust the Doctor with a teenager, let alone a baby.”

There is a natural inclination in our mind to compare The Doctor in many ways to Albert Einstein, a brilliant man who doesn’t often have the social functions to be anything other than brilliant. The comparisons here do feel very much relevant in that this is a guy who is incredibly intelligent, but at the same time struggles to figure out the right way to communicate. He puts lives in danger often as a result of it.

Silver lining time – While we are rather nervous for this poor child, it’s hard to imagine “The Return of Doctor Mysterio” going beyond the pale to the extent of doing away with a child. This is a show with a family audience! Therefore, hopefully the solution to this is “someone enters the scene and takes said baby away from The Doctor.” Or, maybe this situation is coming about in the first place simply as a result of someone telling The Doctor to hold the child momentarily.

Okay … since you just made it through us talking about a photo of The Doctor holding a baby for a good 250 words or so, there’s another photo at the bottom from this special. This one features the alter ego of Doctor Mysterio, as played by Justin Chatwin (“Shameless”), doing his best Superman impression.
