Could ‘Power’ season 4 set further ratings records for Starz?

PowerWhile it was pretty clear from the onset of “Power” season 1 that we had a show with a ton of potential on its hands, at the same exact time it was hard to anticipate where the ratings were going to go. For a show that started with smaller numbers, at least in comparison to some other premium cable networks (it was still solid for Starz), this series in particular is now the network’s biggest hit, and still remains one of the most underrated gems on the air.

If you want to look at its success further, all you gotta do is check out the ratings for season 3. In total viewers, the show averaged over 1.9 million viewers, an increase of more than 50% from the season that aired before it. This number is probably boosted in part because this is the first season of the show to air on Sunday nights, but even without that the second season of “Power” (which aired on Saturdays) improved its total-viewer total from season 1 by over 85%.

So what’s the ceiling for the fourth season, with this in mind? It feels wrong to set specific benchmarks or expectations given that it’s hard to say precisely when the show will hit its peak, mostly because the majority of the shows out there do have some sort zenith that they reach and then start to come down. That’s something that was the case with “The Walking Dead” at the end of last season and the start of this one, and eventually, it’s possible that it will happen here.

We just don’t see it happening — at least for now. While our expectation is not another increase of more than 50%, it should still improve as more and more viewers become aware of it. The only trouble spot it may have is “Game of Thrones” moving to summer. Could the two shows compete with each other? That’s something that does feel possible.
