‘Supergirl’ season 2 spoilers: The future for Alex, Maggie as a couple
The winter finale of “Supergirl” absolutely was a case of great news if you find yourself ‘shipping Alex and Maggie, given that the two finally seem to be together as a couple. There were great performances in here for one, but in the writing, there was a concentrated effort of bringing two people together because they wanted to be, not because it was something forced and not altogether earned. The past few episodes were exceptional in the way it dealt with the two characters assessing their feelings, and then hitting very specific touchstones along the way where they were able to better determine precisely what they thought about each other and if they eventually wanted to act on their feelings. They have now, but that’s far from the end of the story.
In speaking a little bit on this further to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg notes that — like with any other couple — there are going to be problems that present themselves that the two are going to encounter:
“There’s definitely some bumps … Just because they are together now doesn’t mean it’s going to go smoothly. Alex has never been in this kind of relationship before and she’s going to make some rookie mistakes that they’ll have to get past. Maggie has been presented as being the perfect guide for Alex’s journey this season, but Alex is going to learn that Maggie isn’t perfect, which is going to lead to some difficult situations coming down the road.”
The point Kreisberg makes in regards to Maggie not being perfect here is exceptionally smart, mostly because there could be a part of Alex who currently views her new girlfriend through rose-colored glasses. She was an inspiration to her and someone she wanted to be, and now she’s in a relationship with her. Inevitably, you will learn more about the good and bad of someone, and the idyllic image will start to fade. In doing so, eventually you will find a much greater love than you ever had before, but that is something that comes with patience and putting forth the effort to have the relationship work.
